{"id":6456,"date":"2023-04-11T19:17:36","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T18:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fernandolopes.pt\/?p=6456"},"modified":"2025-09-06T21:33:22","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T20:33:22","slug":"colegio-san-jeronimo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fernandolopes.pt\/en\/colegio-san-jeronimo\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint Jerome College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h2>Saint Jerome College the City Hall history<\/h2>\n<p>It is located in the Plaza de Obradoiro, just in front of the cathedral.<br \/>\n This hall of residence was originally a foundation of Archbishop Compostelano Alonso III de Fonseca, with the intention of dedicating it to a school for poor students and artists, which was located in the so-called Hospicio de la Azabacher\u00eda.<br \/>\n During the year 1652, it was decided to move it from that location. For this purpose, a new building was built, in what was then called Plaza del Hospital (because the Hospital of the Catholic Monarchs was located there), the current Plaza del Obradoiro.<br \/>\n A building of lines and two sections high, in which the medieval portico was inserted, coming from the said Hospice, which until that height housed the school, which is usually dated between 1490 and 1500.
