Santiago de Compostela is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage destinations, most popular only Rome and Jerusalem. The foundation of the city in the 9th century, stands out the 16th century Santiago Cathedral, where the tomb of Santiago Maior, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. The visit to the tomb marks the end of the pilgrimage, the so-called Caminhos de Santiago, which cross western Europe along different routes and thousands of kilometers.
